Taking a Break

I'm sad to say that I'm taking a break from blogging for a while. I made the decision on Friday after having a complete meltdown and feeling like a horrible mother because I let me daughter cry for 4 hours on and off during the night without feeding her. I was trying to break her habit of waking up at the same time every night because I read that between 9-15 weeks bottle fed babies could go 8 hours without eating and I was trying to extend her nights according to the Baby Wise book. I know now that after the first 45 minutes of crying on and off I should have just fed her. I cried the entire next day and after talking to my family I decided to put the books up!

I was trying so hard to get her on a schedule according to the book and kept referring to it nonstop. I have a problem. I admit it. I compare my baby to every other baby her age and I read too much into things. I have decided that I need to let her make her own schedule for now at least until I get a job and we then we can figure how her schedule needs to be. I know that every baby is different and unique and I need to be proud of my baby and love her no matter what for who she is and not try to change her. So I've decided to take a break from blogging so that I can focus on my daughter and learn to not compare and just be happy with who she is.

I know this is a weird all over the place post but I didn't have a lot of time to get my thoughts in order but I wanted to let my followers know why I haven't written. I hope this break isn't too long and I hope to still read all of your blogs from time to time.

With much love and respect,

Heather

  1. I'm sorry you're having such a rough time :-( Someone bought me that Baby Wise book, and you know what? I threw it out after reading the first 100 pages. I've talked with several other mommas and healthcare professionals who were unimpressed with it, too. Your little one will settle into a routine eventually, and she may just be going through a growth spurt. I completely understand the need to take a break from blogging every now and then - hope to see you back some day :-)

  2. Good for you to take some time to focus on what's important! Every baby does things differently and one way doesn't work for every baby! She will find her groove and so will you! I have always tried to throw others comments and critiques out the window but I know that it can be hard to do! my mil always says, once you get a routine down, the baby changes it haha. Just try to relax! Do what you are comfortable with and what works for you and liz!!! Iris still gets up at midnight and then again around 6 am. I rock her until she's passed out and I hold her for naps. All things the "books" say not to do! But I look at it this way...I will do what makes me happy! I don't want to look back and say "man, I wish I held her more or this or that". Iris is happy and healthy and that's the important thing!!! Remember, you can't spoil a baby!!! =)

  6. Hang in there! Just follow your intuition and don't rely on reading others blogs and books. You are doing a great job with Liz and you and her can work together to figure out what you both need. Above all, make sure you take care of yourself! A happy mama = happy baby:)
